Jennifer Amann

Doctoral Researcher at the University of Loughborough, UK

Jennifer Amann is a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Loughborough, a member of the Sport Ecology Group’s Graduate Mentorship Programme and a football fan. Her main research focus is on using sports as an alternative way to communicate complex topics such as climate change and sustainability, and increase and inspire the acceptance for collective climate action amongst all stakeholders in sport. Beyond that, she is looking into the potential of football fans to mobilize for and drive societal change more broadly. In her free time, however, you won't find her on the playing field, but teaching or participating in Group Fitness classes or enjoying a hike.

Following a bachelor’s in political science and economics (University of Münster), Jennifer graduated with a Master of Science in Global Studies (University of Gothenburg) focusing on conflict resolution and sustainable development in June 2021. As part of a research internship with the University of Brighton, she has started to look into engaging football fans on climate change resulting in, amongst other things, her master’s thesis and two academic publications. She has been supporting different actors in the field of sport and environmental sustainability and is doing her doctorate on the topic “Extra time: Scoring pro-environmental last-minute goals through mobilising football fans on climate change?“
