Code of Conduct

for the sportainable gUG (limited liability), the think tank sportainable operated by it, the booster club for the promotion of the think tank sportainable and the young talent network sportainableCONNECT —hereinafter collectively referred to as sportainable

1. Preamble

The sportainable gUG is the non-profit organisation responsible for the think tank sportainable for sustainable sport. The purposes of sportainable gUG are the promotion of science and research with regard to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of 2015, the promotion of nature conservation and environmental protection, the promotion of education for sustainable development in sport and the promotion of a sustainable sport culture.

The sportainable gUG realises this purpose by creating the sportainable think tank. The think tank sportainable is a non-university research institution in the form of an international network of experts and partner organisations from science and practice as well as young researchers who are dedicated to sustainable sport development.

The non-profit booster club for the promotion of the think tank sportainable pursues the purpose of promoting science and research as well as education and training in the field of sustainability in the sense of the sustainability goals of the United Nations and realises this purpose in particular through the promotion of research projects and events, such as those carried out by the think tank sportainable carried by the sportainable gUG.

sportainableCONNECT is a network that connects people on the LinkedIn platform.

The designated entities are summarised below as sportainable.

The values and principles defined in this Code of Conduct determine the behaviour and conduct of the members and functionaries internally and towards external parties in the engagement and cooperation of sportainable. All persons involved in sportainable undertake to recognise and comply with this Code of Conduct. We expect our partners to respect this Code of Conduct.

We stand for ethical behaviour and integrity in all projects and initiatives. Any behaviour that is contrary to our values and principles is a violation of this Code of Conduct.

3. Responsibility for dealing with each other

Interactions between members and with representatives and other partners should always be characterised by respect and appreciation. Everyone should have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and develop to the best of their ability.

No one should be discriminated against or disadvantaged on the basis of their ethnic origin, skin colour, sexual identity, religion, ideology, disability, age or gender. We promote equal opportunities and respect the structures, customs and traditions of other cultures.

We attach great importance to open communication. Internal conflicts should be avoided as far as possible. If they do occur, they are resolved openly, constructively and on an equal footing.

4. Special responsibility towards children and young people

Sport plays a special role in the development of children and young people. For this reason, children and young people in the sportainable context require special protection. We want to ensure that everyone involved in sportainable respects the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the associated rights and the well-being of children and young people involved in the sportainable context. This applies with regard to

  • compliance with children's rights: We recognise the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and are committed to respecting and promoting the rights of all children and young people. We are actively committed to ensuring that children and young people are heard in all matters that affect them.
  • protection from abuse and neglect: We are committed to creating a safe environment where children and young people are protected from physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
  • the promotion of participation: We encourage children and young people to express their opinions and actively participate in decisions that affect them.
  • responsible handling of information: We protect the privacy and confidentiality of children and young people and handle their personal data responsibly. Information about children and young people may only be passed on with their consent or in the best interests of the child.
  • promoting education and development: We support the education and personal development of children and young people and provide them with access to resources that promote their growth. We respect every child's right to education and are committed to breaking down barriers.

5. Responsibility in handling information and data

There is always an exchange of data and information in connection with collaborations. The protection of this data and information is a top priority for us. We are committed to handling all data and information responsibly, regardless of whether it is personal data, company data or confidential information. Our data processing is transparent and limited to the necessary minimum. In all projects and collaborations, we take into account legal requirements (e.g. GDPR) and current security standards to ensure maximum data protection and the protection of business secrets.

6. Commitment to the general principles of good scientific practice

In accordance with the German Research Foundation's Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice, non-university research institutions define the rules for good scientific practice with the participation of their scientific members, communicate them to their members and oblige them to comply with them, taking into account the particularities of the relevant subject area.

Every researcher is responsible for ensuring that their own behaviour complies with the standards of good scientific practice.

The principles include, in particular, working lege artis, maintaining strict honesty with regard to one's own and third parties' contributions, consistently questioning all results oneself and allowing and promoting critical discourse in the scientific community.

7. Responsibility in dealing with commercial property rights

We respect and protect the commercial property rights and intellectual property of all parties involved. This includes, for example, trade mark rights, patents, designs, copyrights or other rights to know-how and technologies. Should new industrial property rights arise in co-operation, the parties will make a separate agreement on this.

8. Bribery and corruption

Compliance with anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws around the world is not just a legal requirement; it reflects our determination to act with the highest level of integrity and honesty. sportainable does not accept any form of bribery or corruption.

9. Violation of the Code of Conduct

Compliance with this Code of Conduct is important to ensure the credibility and success of sportainable. Violations will not be tolerated. Depending on the type and severity of the offence, measures in the event of violations include warnings, training measures or, in the case of serious violations, exclusion from sportainable. All participants are called upon to report violations confidentially to the Compliance Officer.

10. Final provisions

This Code of Conduct is regularly reviewed to ensure that it is up to date and amended as necessary. We are aware that this Code of Conduct can only serve as a guide and does not conclusively deal with every individual case.
