Barry O’Sullivan is a Sport Ecology PhD candidate at South East Technological University (SETU) in Carlow, Ireland. His research focuses on environmental sustainability initiatives within sporting organisations, the types of stakeholders involved, and how organisations communicate their climate-related actions. Barry is a member of the Sport Ecology Group’s Graduate Mentorship Programme, while also collaborating with its main membership on various projects. His expertise has also led him to advise and work with several sporting organisations on sustainability matters.
Before pursuing his doctorate, Barry earned undergraduate qualifications in Financial Services, Business Management, Sport Coaching, and Sport Management. For the past five years, he has worked as a part-time lecturer at SETU, teaching across multiple courses in the Department of Sport, Media and Marketing. Beyond academia, Barry has held senior roles across diverse industries, including Banking and Finance, Sports Media, Sports Data Analytics, and Operations and Event Management. He has also worked with several League of Ireland football clubs at both first-team and academy levels as a coach and opposition analyst.
